To date in 2020, a total of 50 people have lost their lives on roads across the south-eastern and Brisbane policing regions.
That is a 51 per cent increase on the same point in 2019 and just a 3.8 per cent decrease on the year before.
The south-eastern and Brisbane policing districts span a large area and take into account most of the Redlands - including the islands - as well as Logan, Jimboomba, Beaudesert, Tamborine, Canungra and Rathdowney.
During the first five months of the year, 25.3 per cent of all road deaths across the state involved motorcycles.
People aged between 16 and 24 made up 22 per cent of casualties, while almost a quarter of deaths involved drink drivers or riders.
Police have run a number of operations during school holiday breaks to clamp down on the fatal five which includes drink and drug driving, fatigue, seat belt use and driver distraction relating to mobile phone use.
Advanced care paramedic Tracey Cater said she expected more people on the roads as school holidays came to an end.
She urged drivers to be watchful, with the return of 40km/h school zones from Tuesday.
"Look out for them, slow down and remember there will be a lot more children walking to school, riding their bikes, crossing the roads, so be vigilant and watchful," Ms Cater said.
"Lets get through this last term, as Christmas is just around the corner.
"Remember to drive to conditions (and) remember the fatal five. All we ask is you drive reasonably and responsibly."
Police have pulled up a number of drivers across the Redlands for speed related offences in 2020.
Two boys were caught allegedly travelling at 130km/h in a 60km/h zone on unregistered and uninsured dirt bikes at Dunwich last week, sparking a warning from Sergeant Darren Scanlan.
"Some may call this an afternoon of misadventure by the boys, however unlike a video game, there is no respawning if you are involved in a crash at that speed," he said.
In August, police vowed to increase their presence on North Stradbroke Island's roads and beaches to crack down on speeding and drink driving.
It came not long after a 69-year-old Wynnum West woman was killed in a crash at Redland Bay in July
Two men were lucky to escape serious injury on Sunday night after a car collided with a tree at Cleveland.
Paramedics, including the critical care team, attended the scene at the intersection of Delancey and Russell streets at 11:32pm.
The two men suffered minor injuries and declined transport to hospital.
