PARCHED backyards across the Redlands received a much-needed soak over the weekend and into Monday courtesy of lingering showers and the odd downpour.
A total of 59.6mm fell across the Redlands on Saturday and Sunday, and 61mm between midnight and midday on Monday.
It took the monthly rainfall total to 134mm, just short of the 142.2mm average for December.
The predicted wet weather took a while to kick-in, with 17.2mm falling on Saturday despite early forecasts warning that up to 30mm was possible.
Sunday did not fail to deliver, with 42.4mm falling inside 24 hours and more heavy rain hitting the city at times on Monday morning as wind gusts hit 72km/h.
Heavier falls were recorded at Upper Springbrook in the Gold Coast Hinterland, where 475mm fell in just 24 hours.
Council opened sandbagging stations at Cleveland, North Stradbroke Island, Macleay and Russell islands over the weekend in response to the wet conditions.

More rain is expected over the coming days but the intensity and amount will vary.
There is a 70 per cent chance of up to 8mm on Wednesday and 10mm on Thursday.
The chance of rain and predicted totals tapers off towards the weekend, with falls to top out at 2mm if showers eventuate on Friday or Saturday.
A severe weather warning was issued for the Redlands this morning as a band of heavy showers made their way to the coast.
Meteorologists warned wind gusts could get up to 90km/h over exposed coastal and elevated areas south of about Redland Bay.
Council closed Birkdale Recycling and Waste Centre shortly before midday due to the strong winds.
