Redlands Pony Club has an emerging star, rider Tahira Jones, who is starring in club events and show jumping, having won several state awards.
She also is tipped to have Olympic standard potential.
She has won the Atkins Dennis Craig Challenge for jumping the highest and clearest, and won the Dressage Highest Points Award.
Club spokeswoman Louise Falwasser said Jones was a talented rider.
"This girl is the star of our club, so talented and so humble," she said.
Tahira started riding lessons as a six-year-old in 2010. That was the start of her journey.
In April the following year, Tahira got her first pony, 13.2 hands Penny, an Australian riding pony.
"Of course the next step was to join the local pony club - Redlands, in July, 2011," Falwasser said.
"She started competing in November of the same year, and she hasn't looked back, winning many ribbons and trophies."
At 11, Tahira was ready for a more competitive pony - the 14.1 hands Coco, an Appaloosa riding pony.
"What a dynamic duo. They went on to win zone one Horse and Rider of the Year, State Champion Dressage, and State Champion Combined Training (which is the combination of dressage and show jumping)," Falwasser said.
"At 12, Tahira was ready for new challenges and a bigger mount. Rommell, a 17 hand high Percheron X Thoroughbred joined the family.
"Together they were competing up to 120cm show jumping and were a very successful team."
Jones took out the Atkins Dennis Craig Challenge - jumping the highest and clearest - and won the Dressage Highest Points Award.
Falwasser said the Jones family was heavily involved in the club, and had sponsored the Jones Trophy for the Most Improved Rider which was won by Bree Hale last year on her horse Blaze.
As a learner rider, Tahira was mentored by one of the older members of the club, Marijke Harfman.
Falwasser said this made the world of difference.
"Marijke encouraged and taught her show jumping, cross country jumping, dressage and for that, the Jones family is immensely grateful," she said.
"Tahira is now mentoring nine-year-old Elle. She is helping with riding skills, encouragement, confidence and friendship.
"Redlands Pony Club has been amazing for Tahira. Her confidence grew, it taught her commitment to caring and looking after her horse, and she has created lasting friendships with other riders.
"The sky is the limit for Tahira, a future Olympian certainly not out of the picture.
"This is what our club is all about, the joy of riding, friendships, confidence building for young and older riders, and learning to care for your horse or pony."
