GATES are open at the Birkdale Community Precinct open day and crowds have flocked to get a closer look at the historic land.
Redland City Council is asking Redlands and Greater Brisbane folk what should be on the 62 hectare site.
This is the first time the community has been given access to this significant piece of historical infrastructure.
Five designers have provided their creative ideas which are on display at the open days, to spark ideas from the community.
The Dotmocracy stand gives people a chance to put stickers on their favourite ideas and even write down other more unusual ones... like bush-dancing or an art community.
The two-day event includes trackless train tours of the land, state heritage-listed World War II US Army radio receiving station and heritage-listed Willards Farm, live entertainment, petting zoo for children, and musical entertainment.
Mayor Karen Williams opened the event this morning and will be at the site again tomorrow to welcome young and old.
Cr Williams was able to give Brisbane Mayor Adrian Schrinner a tour of the site this morning while Ranger Stacey was on hand to chat about any environmental queries.
Birkdale Community Precinct includes two properties - the former Commonwealth land at Birkdale and Willards Farm.
At almost 10 times the size of The Gabba and its surrounding facilities, the precinct has plenty of space for many exciting projects that would enhance lifestyle, create jobs, boost the local economy and bring forward important transport infrastructure.
The site also has environmental, cultural and historical significance, which will be protected.
In addition to heritage-listed Willards Farm, onsite is a state heritage-listed World War II radio receiving station that was used to relay messages from the theatre of war to General MacArthur's headquarters in Brisbane.
The events run from 10am to 4pm both days, with parking and entry via Birkdale Baptist Church, 1 Jones Road, Birkdale.
The Your Say site yoursay.redland.qld.gov.au/imagine includes videos, the designers' vision boards and photos.
