STUDENTS at Coolnwynpin State School are celebrating NAIDOC Week with traditional art, music, sport and storytelling.
A smoking ceremony and welcome to country conducted by Nunagal man and Traditional Custodian Josh Walker will cap off a big week of activities on Friday.
The event will be held on the school oval from 9.15am and the community is invited to attend.
Deputy principal Paul Russo said the school was appreciative of the support for its NAIDOC celebrations, which included donations from Bunnings and Woolworths at Capalaba.
"We have had Indigiscapes provide native edible plants to support a bush tucker garden at the school" he said.
"Indigibees will be coming to educate students on native bees and will be placing a native beehive in the school grounds.
"To add to these activities, we have a unique artwork being produced by our year six cohort in conjunction with Monique Proud from Cultural Grounding."
Coolnwynpin State School has taken on board this year's theme of heal country, which calls for all Australian to seek greater protection for things like land, water and sacred sites.
