AUTHOR, journalist and editor Mia Freedman inspired women at the 11th annual Redlands Centre for Women high tea on Saturday.
Ms Freedman is the co-founder of digital media company Mamamia, which began as a personal blog in her lounge room in 2007.
She spoke about her attempts to balance her work and family life and how women are portrayed in the media.
The Redlands Centre for Women event is held in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Guests at the event at the Sheldon Event Centre were treated to music by Mama Juju and the Jam Tarts, a fashion parade by local business Urban Outlet, market stalls and raffles.
The first high tea was held when centre founder Katrina Beutel took up a challenge by Cleveland’s Star of the Sea Parish to grow $100 into a donation to help others in need.
Ms Beutel gathered together some friends and launched the Pink Pamper Pack project that donated hampers to women struggling through difficult times.
The project was launched at a high tea fundraiser on March 8, 2008, raising funds to distribute two packs a week for a year.
The Redlands Centre for Women was incorporated as a not-for-profit organisation in 2011.
