CRIME Stoppers Brisbane Bayside branch volunteers have been recognised for their work to help promote the 1800 333 000 hotline number.
The group was named as Crime Stoppers Queensland’s best branch for fundraising and promotional work, picking up gold awards for both categories at the organisation’s bi-annual conference.
Money raised by volunteers is used to buy promotional material for handout to the public.
Funds are also used to top-up the cash rewards kitty, which is dipped into and offered as incentives to the public when police need vital clues to help solve crimes.
Bayside District Crime Prevention’s Senior Constable Brendon Winslow said the work by Crime Stoppers volunteers was invaluable.
He said reports made to Crime Stoppers last financial year helped to nab 49 people on 172 charges in the bayside, leading to the seizure of $281,090 worth of drugs and other property.
“These figures are absolutely outstanding,” he said.
Crime Stoppers Brisbane Bayside branch volunteers will host their next fundraiser on Friday, November 2 at Redland Bay golf course.
More people are needed to sign-up for an ambrose golf tournament. Teams of four can buy entry for $390 per team.
Corporate sponsors are also needed, with donated prizes for raffles sought.
Registration on the day opens at 6.30am.
