ONE week into the Australian Gymnastics Championships, Redlands gymnasts have impressed judges on the national stage and collected a slew of medals.
With the artistic gymnastics competition wrapping up yesterday in Melbourne, Jayde Beutel has returned to Queensland with several individual and team wins.
Last Thursday, the YMCA Victoria Point athlete received a silver medal all around after winning silver on beam and gold on bars.
Beutel's winning streak continued on from her success at the 2018 national championships, where she was the Level 9 overall runner-up.
After dominating in bars and vault, Beutel's state team, led by YMCA Victoria Point coach Kellie Trask, won a silver medal in the Level 10 teams event.
In the artistic gymnastics Level 8 Under 14 category, Birkdale gymnast Doreen Chiang helped Queensland to a clean sweep on the podium, winning bronze all around.
The Premier Gymnastics gymnast was one of only two competitors to score above 13.000 on uneven bars and came away from the competition the national bars champion in her category.
Sister Rachael Chiang placed second on floor in the Level 9 Over 16 category, placing 11th all around.
A Premier Gymnastics spokesperson said the club was proud of Doreen and Rachael's efforts .
As of Saturday, May 25, Queensland is leading the medal tally.
Several Redlands athletes are still to compete in aerobic, rhythmic and trampoline gymnastics.
The competition runs until June 4.
