STUDENTS from eight Redlands schools have been selected among the south-east's most promising young musicians to attend an intensive weekend music program at Queensland Conservatorium.
Nearly one thousand students between years five and eight will attend the third annual middle school State Honours Ensemble Program for south-east Queensland, which kicked off on Friday.
Young musicians have descended upon Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University's South Bank campus for three days of rehearsal and performance, guided by respected conductors from Australia and across the globe.
Fifty-six students from Alexandra Hills State High School, Cleveland District State High School, Cleveland State School, Faith Lutheran College, Ormiston College, Redlands College, Sheldon College and Wellington Point State School will take part in the program.
Redlands musicians - who will perform with wind, string and vocal ensembles during the program - were nominated by their music teachers as some of their school's best and brightest.
As well as working with world-class conductors, students will have the opportunity to perform in a professional concert hall when the program wraps up with five grand finale concerts in the Conservatorium Theatre on Sunday, June 2.
While the middle school program is in its third year, SHEP has been running annually for older students for nearly two decades, with some alumni now playing in elite symphony orchestras in Australia and overseas.
Students in years three to six took part in the program for the first time in 2018 with the introduction of SHEP Primary.
SHEP Middle School runs from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2.
