THORNLANDS local Charli Woosnam might be the daughter of a Hockeyroo but she is making her own way in the sport.
The Moreton Bay College Student has been selected alongside Redlands locals Hannah and Jessica Frater for the Queensland under 15 indoor hockey squad, and the state under 16 outdoor development squad.
The daughter of Australian player Melanie Woosnam, Charli has found her niche in hockey and has represented Queensland previously in younger age groups.
Ms Woosnam said her daughter was incredibly proud to have been selected in the squad, particularly given a number of national and state tournaments had to be cancelled throughout the year due to the pandemic.
"Thankfully they got to play in the Queensland school state championships in September at Townsville," she said.
"That culminated in the state under 15 indoor championships at Maryborough last weekend.
"She was very pleased. They made the final and she scored a goal to take the game to a shoot-out, but unfortunately they lost.
"She was a bit disappointed to lose but very proud to have been selected in the Queensland squad."
Charli, 15, hails from a hockey-mad family and has been involved in the sport since she was three.
Not only does her mother have roots in the game, but her father had stints with Queensland and New South Wales during his playing days.
Her brother Jay has also shown promise, having recently been selected in the Queensland under 19 schoolboys squad.
It means there is plenty of hockey talk and banter around the house.
Ms Woosnam said Charli trained about three times a week during the season and played about three games over the course of a weekend.
She had a short term goal of performing well at the under 16 development camp, as it meant she could be in with a shot of making the under 18 squad despite her young age.
Charli came through the ranks at Redlands Hockey club but recently moved to the Gold Coast to play on turf.
