COMMUTERS have named and shamed the region's most congested roads in an RACQ survey, with major routes through Capalaba to Brisbane city among the worst.
The club received almost 2000 nominations for locations where Queensland drivers experienced frustrating gridlock as part of its annual Red Spot Congestion survey.
Major commuter route Old Cleveland Road, which links Capalaba to the Gateway Motorway and stretches to Stones Corner, was the Redlands' most nominated road for congestion, with complaints including not enough road capacity and poor linking of traffic lights.
"Cars exiting Old Cleveland Road form extra lane on shoulder of Old Cleveland Road up to 1.5 kilometres from where they join the Gateway Motorway," one respondent said.
Another said inconsiderate motorists would try to jump the queue, causing further delays for people who had been lining up for kilometres to get onto the motorway.
Work to upgrade the on-ramp intersection is set to be finished by the end of this year.
Redland Bay Road at Capalaba was another source of concern, receiving 11 complaints.
"[The] roundabout [near Taylor Road and Duncan Road] is completely choked by westbound traffic," one respondent said.
The Moreton Bay Road intersection was identified by motorists as a congestion hotspot.
"[There are] too many cars trying to turn right so blocking the right through lane," one person said
"Also, constant ... red light runners at peak hour."
Another person said it could take up to five cycles of lights to turn right onto Redland Bay Road from Moreton Bay Road during peak times.
"The turning lane is not long enough to accommodate the traffic."
Also among the problem roads were Beenleigh Redland Bay Road, Cleveland Redland Bay Road, Mount Cotton Road, Mount Gravatt Capalaba Road, Rickertt Road and Finucane Road.
