REDLANDS Rays' division one Little League team are this year's champions after their resounding 17-0 grand final win against Redcliffe Padres White at Redlands on Saturday morning.
The Rays players came to the grounds focused and determined to put the season's extensive training into practice.
Both teams started strong but Redlands' defence remained unbreakable, ensuring that no runs were scored by Padres.
Eight of the nine Rays players will now progress to their respective regional representative teams and will compete for Brisbane South Region in the upcoming Little League state titles, scheduled to be held at Redcliffe in three weeks time.
Coach James Williams expressed his gratitude to the players and supporters for their commitment throughout the season and wished them the best in the next chapter of their baseball career.
Rays division two Little League Devilrays faced this season's minor premiers, Wests Bulldogs Red, in their grand final at Redlands on Saturday.
Both teams played a strong defence and kept runs low throughout the game.
Seth Lutton opened the pitching for Rays and continued through the second inning, also taking a catch and assisting with two infield outs. Chase Cartwright followed with two strikeouts and a catch.
The Devilrays applied pressure on their opponents when they got on base, with aggressive base stealing by both Charles Trigger and Hunter Tathem.
After a hard-fought game, the final 5-4 score appeared to go the Bulldogs way until it was revealed that Wests' coaching staff made an error by utilising the same player as catcher and pitcher for the majority of the match, breaching the GBL Bylaws and resulting in Bulldogs disqualification and Devilrays being awarded the upset win.
In the division six senior grand final at Southern Stars Club on Sunday, Redlands Stingrays came in runner-up in a one-sided game against minor premiers Toowoomba Rangers.
Having played their rain delayed semi-final game against Mantarays just three days earlier, Stingrays struggled to match the well-rested Rangers who had not played for two weeks.
Redlands Rays Club will close out the season with the upcoming senior awards night scheduled to be held at the clubhouse on Saturday, April 10.
