CAPALABA FC have delivered one of the upsets of the National Premier Leagues season with a 3-1 win over high-flyers Gold Coast Knights on Saturday.
The Bulldogs turned spoiler for the fourth-placed Knights at Max Haynes Field, scoring twice in a three minute second half blitz to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time this year.
Kado Aoci and Yianni Kondilis struck a goal each to stun the Knights, with both out-guiling the opposition defence from well-worked set-piece plays.
Earlier, Russell Parker delivered the hosts a 1-0 half-time lead before Jheison Macuace pulled a goal back for the Knights early in the second half.
The result is the second big upset of the season from the Bulldogs after they stunned defending champions Lions FC 3-2 back in March.
David McEvoy's side now move to tenth in the competition standings and eleven points clear of the bottom three relegation zone.
The team have the opportunity to further secure their place in the competition next season when they tackle relegation-threatened Mackay's Magpies Crusaders United this weekend.
There was disappointment in the main game of the home double-header as the Bulldogs women's side were eliminated from the inaugural Kappa Women's Super Cup.
The Bulldogs succumbed 3-0 to powerhouse Lions FC on their home patch, with Tegan Riding, Shea Connors and Amy Gunston finding the back of the net.
Despite fielding a number of big name stars, the Bulldogs were unable to get the better of a Lions side that also eliminated the Bulldogs from last year's final series.
The result leaves the Bulldogs Women's side now solely focusing on the league after securing their position in the competition's top half following the mid-season split last week.
