EXTRA police will be sent to parts of North Stradbroke Island as school holidays kick off this week, with tourists urged to stay COVID-safe.
Officers are preparing for an influx of high school students who make the trip to the island each year for pre-schoolies.
Additional police will be sent to the island to bolster the number of officers at Dunwich and Point Lookout.
Inspector Lindsay Kilpatrick encouraged young people to act responsibly and enjoy the island beaches and attractions.
"We are urging parents to consider the possible consequences of providing alcohol to young people (and) also reminding them that a decision to supply alcohol to an underage child could result in fines of up to $3000," he said.
Visitors must also abide by social distancing rules and wear face masks when required. Breaches could result in fines up to $13,785 or six months in prison.
Anyone who feels sick while celebrating on the island is urged to stay home and get tested.
It comes as just one new locally acquired coronavirus case is detected in Queensland overnight.
Police reminded students to think about their actions and that a split-second decision could have major ramifications on the rest of their lives.
Revellers have been caught out on North Stradbroke Island in the past, with schoolies evicted from rental houses and charged for alcohol and drug offences.
Police presence has in the past ramped up during the September school holidays as students make their annual pilgrimage to the island for celebrations ahead of schoolies at the end of November.
Past cohorts received similar messages from police about acting responsibly during their trip.
