POLICE are reminding residents to remove valuable items from their cars and lock up at night amid a spike in tool theft at Redland Bay and Cleveland.
Thousands of dollars worth of hand and power tools have allegedly been stolen from utes and trailers while parked on the street overnight.
It comes about a month after a Redland Bay man had a ute stolen from his garage along with an assortment of tools, including a leaf blower, laser level, jack hammer, drop saw and brush cutter.
The Ford Falcon was driven to Kingston and torched before being found by police near Bega Road.
The Redland City Bulletin can reveal that Kimbolton Drive, Penzance Drive and Wilkie Street at Redland Bay along with Shore Street West at Cleveland have recently been targeted by tool thieves.
Constable Guy Horton said people should not leave garage remotes, wallets, house keys, laptops and tablets, tools or other valuable items in the vehicle, particularly if it is parked on the street or in a driveway at night.
"It's also a good idea to keep a record of the serial numbers of all your valuable property and keep photographs of unique items," he said.
"To assist with identification, consider engraving your your tools."
People can contact their local police station to enquire about the free use of engraving tools to mark their possessions.
