REDLANDS United made the trip down the M1 at the weekend as they continued their preparations for the 2021 National Premier League season against Gold Coast Premier League side Broadbeach FC.
The Red Devils were still without a number of players due to minor injury worries but head coach Richard Greer was still able to field a strong side.
A goal early in the first half by recent signing Jackson Hall, following some great team build up play, gave the Red Devils an early 1-0 lead.
The score line could have been more except for some great last ditch defending and some fine saves by the Broadbeach Keeper which kept the Red Devils out and limited the score to 1-0 at the break.
With the second half continuing on much the same lines as the first, Guil Santana extended the lead for the Red Devils midway through the second half, solidly finishing off some great team play.
Broadbeach were a very determined side and continued to pressure the Redlands defence but Redlands Keeper Joel D'Cruz stood firm in goals with a well marshaled defense, as the Red Devils ran out winners two goals to nil.
Redlands United NPL head coach Richard Greer said the game was another step forward in the team's preparations for the season.
"Broadbeach is always a tough place to go and get a result," he said. "I was pleased with the way we applied ourselves and stuck to our principles in attack and defence.
"Hopefully we can continue to progress as we near the start of the season."
In the early games, the under 23s saw Redlands United also claim victory with a 5-3 result over Broadbeach's reserve grade side.
The Under 18s earned a hard fought 2-2 draw against another Broadbeach men's side.
Next Saturday the Red Devils are at home in their final pre-season hit out as they play host to Wolves FC at the Compass Grounds.
The game kicks off at 6pm with the Under 23s at 4pm and Under 18s at 2pm.
