CAPALABA FC believe their recent enforced break from competitive football may be a blessing in disguise as they seek to finish the season on a high.
The Bulldogs return to action in the National Premier Leagues Men's competition away to fellow mid-tablers Gold Coast United this Friday night.
The match is the first since July for the tenth placed Bulldogs as the competition was put on hold due to Covid restrictions in recent weeks.
Captain Tristan Hugo said the team's discipline and work ethic had them ready to hit the ground running.
"The lockdown was all right in some ways," he said.
"We were given at home training and workouts and everyone has been held accountable throughout.
"Not playing games has helped with a few niggling injuries and that can only help with the season returning."
Despite a strong run of results through July - including three straight wins to start the month - the Bulldogs last start proved a reality check as they were humbled 5-0 by Lions FC just days before lockdown.
Hugo said the team had learned their lesson and believed they could once again get on a roll to secure their place in the state's top tier for another season.
"We are very confident we can close the season on a high," he said.
"We have no intention of slowing down. We want to keep improving, keep creeping up the table and roll into next season."
Due to the lockdown and halt to community sport, the National Premier Leagues season has been extended.
The Bulldogs' star-studded women's side will also return this weekend when they host Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Max Haynes Field on Sunday afternoon.
